Paid Parental Leave for Fathers

For those who are interested – this petition is asking for you to sign to ask Starbucks to offer paid parental leave to their employees who are biological newborn fathers.  Paid parental leave is already offered to biological mothers and adoptive parents, but biological fathers are left out, which… makes… no… sense?

I firmly believe that all men should have the same opportunities as women in this arena.  They should be offered jobs that allow them to spend more time with their families, even if that means they get paid somewhat less money.  I believe that’s the only true way to close the wage gap.

Let me explain.  Most studies have shown that in the ordinary workplace, women typically offer or accept to get lower-paying work in order to spend more time with their families.  Men do not.  I find this to be a horrible negative.  It’s not that women should be offered jobs like men, it’s that men should be offered jobs like women.  Men should be asking for more family time; women should not be asking for less.

Please sign if you agree.  Stand with me and ask Starbucks to let their male employees spend more time with their newborn children.  Family is just as important for men as it is for women.  And the particular ban against biological fathers makes absolutely zero sense.
